Learning intention

This experience supports children to create with natural materials and to develop respect for the environment by reusing food scraps.

You'll need

• Firm vegetables (potato, celery base, capsicum)
• Paint on paper plates
• Paper
• Cutting done by an educator

How to do it

1. An educator cuts the vegetables and carves simple shapes into the potato halves.
2. Show children how the cut base of a celery bunch makes a flower-like print.
3. Children dip the vegetable into paint and press it onto paper to build up patterns.
4. Encourage repeating patterns and overlapping prints in different colours.
