Stop-Motion Animation

Stop-Motion Animation is a free, NQF-aligned Construction & STEM activity for ages 8 to 12. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to use digital media to represent their thinking and to plan and sequence a story.

You'll need

• Building bricks or small figures
• A tablet with a stop-motion app
• A steady surface or simple stand

How to do it

1. Children build a scene and plan a short story.
2. They photograph the scene, move the pieces slightly, and photograph again - repeating many times.
3. The app strings the photos into a moving animation.
4. Add music or titles, then screen the finished movies for the group.
