DIY Bubble Wands is a free, NQF-aligned Sensory & Messy Play activity for ages 5 to 12. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to experiment with size and shape and to be active in outdoor play.

You'll need

  • ⅓ cup dishwashing liquid
  • Water
  • Pipe cleaners or wire for wands
  • A wide tray for the mixture

How to do it

  1. Children bend pipe cleaners into wand shapes with a loop at the end.
  2. Mix the dishwashing liquid gently with water in a tray.
  3. Children dip the wands and wave them to make bubbles.
  4. Experiment with wand size and shape to make bigger or smaller bubbles.
