Coloured Sand Art

Coloured Sand Art is a free, NQF-aligned Sensory & Messy Play activity for ages 5 to 10. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to express creative ideas and to develop fine-motor control.

You'll need

• Coloured sand
• Liquid glue
• Paint brushes
• Card or paper

How to do it

1. Children paint a glue design onto card with a brush.
2. They sprinkle coloured sand over the wet glue.
3. Tip off the excess to reveal the design, then add new colours.
4. Layer different colours to build up a textured picture.
