Bridge Building Challenge

Bridge Building Challenge is a free, NQF-aligned Construction & STEM activity for ages 6 to 12. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to solve problems through engineering thinking and to persist and show resilience when designs fail.

You'll need

• Building bricks
• Small weights or toys to test the bridge
• Optional pop sticks

How to do it

1. Set the challenge: build a bridge that holds an object without collapsing.
2. Children plan, then build, testing stability as they go.
3. Add weight gradually to see how much each bridge holds.
4. Discuss what made the strongest designs work and rebuild to improve.
