Paper Plane Design Lab

Paper Plane Design Lab is a free, NQF-aligned Construction & STEM activity for ages 6 to 12. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to experiment and record results, and to compare and discuss their findings.

You'll need

• Paper and light cardboard in several colours
• Pens and stickers
• A clear space to test flights

How to do it

1. Children fold a basic plane: fold in half, fold the top corners to the centre, then fold the wings down.
2. They decorate and then trial different fold patterns.
3. Test each plane's distance and flight path, recording the results.
4. Adjust the designs to fly further or straighter, then hold a friendly fly-off.
