Nature Sun Catchers is a free, NQF-aligned Free & Outdoor / Nature Play activity for ages 5 to 10. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to develop a connection with nature and to express creative ideas.

You'll need

  • Coloured paper plates
  • Clear contact paper
  • Small natural items (petals, leaves)

How to do it

  1. Children walk through the garden to collect small, flat natural items.
  2. Cut out the centre of a paper plate to make a frame.
  3. Stick clear contact paper across the hole and press the natural items onto it.
  4. Hang the sun catchers in a window to catch the light.
