Invent-a-Game Workshop is a free, NQF-aligned Construction & STEM activity for ages 8 to 12. It includes a learning intention, a materials list, step-by-step instructions and framework links.

Learning intention

This experience supports children to create and design, and to become aware of fairness when making rules.

You'll need

  • Cardboard, pop sticks, rubber bands
  • Markers and tape
  • Small balls or counters

How to do it

  1. Children invent a brand-new tabletop game using only recycled materials.
  2. They design the board, decide the rules and build the pieces.
  3. Groups swap games and play each other's creations.
  4. Talk about what made each game fun and fair.
